Good to see you looking at this objectively rather than emotively, which is the strategy used by those trying to influence people from not exploring the EV option. I'm not saying the Tesla semi will be the answer as the technology and battery chemistries are changing at a rapid rate and there may be better alternatives in the future but Teslas engineering is world class. There is no doubt there will be savings if the technology matures and proves to be reliable, which I believe it will, over time. Electric semis and delivery trucks are great IF you can come back to the same terminal and recharge the unit - as Ronen mentioned (that's what PepsiCo does with their units). Unless and until charging stations for semi's are available all over North America and ranges increase to compete with diesels, electric semi's aren't going to replace diesel long haul trucks.

You are going to pay for "fuel" one way or another; in this case the fuel turns into paying for electricity, which as far as I know is not free and it takes time to recharge one of those Tesla semi's; what does electricity cost up there? How much time I don't know for sure. On top of that new insurance cost, the new way to keeping the semi maintained that people, drivers to mechanics, will have to learn and that add's up. In the end I think for local short route runs; this is a good option. The long haul runs; I thinking more along the lines of hybrid, like Edison has, I even want one of the pick-up truck diesel conversions and there will be more new stuff to learn with that one, just like everything new.
Also, electricity isn’t free. What is the delta per charge between diesel and electric? I’m sure the disparity is large. But, the example you gave of saving $220k in diesel per year wasn’t offset by the electricity costs. Lastly, with our Cascadia’s, we can have just about any part overnighted to us and have the truck back up and running. I am EXTREMELY concerned about parts availability for the Tesla.
The estimated battery size is 880KwH. Here in America we are typically charge per KwH so it made the math easy for us. Our current rate was $87.93 to “fill” 880KwH.
Have you looked into the price of installing the charging? Or even contacted the engineering department of your electric utility to see if you can even get the power needed for charging. You should probably look into what the ATA has to say about the inability to get the amount of power needed for charging. There are videos of it on the ATA youtube channel

Last comment, sorry to spam. You didn’t touch on insurance. With how easily Tesla, Rivian, and Nikola vehicles are totaled, how is that affecting your bottom line? Or are you captive insured?
Additionally, before I reserved the Tesla, I test drove a Nikola BeV. It is only a single axle drive unit that will not do well in the snow. We also could not get it insured. It was valued at $440k. I have the emails I can forward to you showing our interaction with Wagner (the dealer network).
Remember when wvery rushed and did this nitro gas in the truck stops for the day cabs....and they started catching fire...whats the warranty like???? Just because the manufacturers say something doesn't actually mean it to be true...but good luck in this endeavor that it actually doe S what it says
Significantly less than you will in fuel. The Tesla predicts a $0.20 per mile charging fee. That means $100 to charge to full capacity. Contrastingly, the 150-gallon Cascadia running at 7.5 miles per gallon will guarantee you roughly 1,125 miles. If you take the diesel prices at an average of $3.62, you're paying roughly $543 to get a full tank of diesel. That means that while the Tesla semi will be running 1000 miles for $200, the Cascadia would be running a similar distance for $343 dollars more.
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News well I see you have everything figured out but what you gonna do after five years , gonna sell the truck, I only ask because all Teslas have lot of depreciation , but I really won’t to try to drive a Tesla truck 😀but for work I prefer long haul , so diesel truck for me for sure
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News I'm assuming you're talking USD here? The Tesla semi's are recharged every day at the PepsiCo terminal in CA, and I'm not sure I would trust their prediction of 20 cents per mile electricity use. There are a lot of factors including the cost of installing the Tesla chargers at your new terminal that I didn't see figured into your analysis. I'd bet it's much more expensive than to install a diesel fuel station at your terminal, because you'd need multiple chargers (due to the time it takes to charge them) whereas you can use one fuel pump because it's much quicker (20 min tops). It's also going to be expensive to retrofit Tesla chargers to your TO and Atlanta terminals if you do decide to go with more Tesla's - and by the time you get them, inflation will have taken a nice bite out of your expected savings....
I recently bought a hyundai EV. Keep in mind it seems that their sweet spot for best range is between 50*-70* I've found thst charging it at a public charger the savings is negligible, charing it at home saves me a bit over my old corolla, also keep in mind charging the battery over 80% regularly causes pre mature battery degradation because of how high the battery temperatures get... All in all everything with EV's comes back to temperatures in regularly to efficiency.. I enjoy my EV but they definitely have their draw backs
I don't understand how Tesla starts taking reservations for any new vehicle years ahead of it being ready. How is a commercial operator supposed to plan their fleet based on moving targets. Same situation is happening in aviation when airlines order new aircraft.

You throw PepsiCo out there as they are happy with the trucks, don’t know where you got that from? The electric trucks are not pulling soda for Pepsi as its range was cut by 1/4. The trucks have all been moved to Lays due to the loads only being 2,000 lbs.

The real money maker in the trucking industry is the tires spinning. The tires don't move. You not making money. That leads into time. More time the truck sits. More money lost. Leads to time to refuel the truck. The faster a truck is fueled. The faster it can be back down the road. Time loss is miles loss is money loss. Traffic and weather plus accidents also play a huge part of it. Old days. My dad drove. My brother drove. I drove. On paper logs. On three different books. Back then it was easy to make a lot of money. You just had to stay awake. Don't wreck. Get there. Drop load. Reload. Move on. EVs don't make money. Time lost majorly. Truck sits. No money.
Not for me, I love to drive my semi 7 hours none stop. That wouldn't give me the miles per day that I need as a team driver, Plus waste 2-4 hours on charging the battery, no thanks. Oh wait how much the battery will cost for a new one? simple math.
Okay you save money on fuel...but are you really???? Now you had to purchase the charging station????$$$$ and now you have to charge it $$$$ so how much will it cost to charge$$$$ are they solar panel chargers???? Or wind mills charger... and what happens when the power goes out?????? The power grid your on will it be able to handle the charge of a telsa station when all r being charged?????
one thing I like about the telsa's, is the power, they can pull up the mountain grades and don't take long to pickup speed, so no more slow trucks holding up traffic

500 miles what people only drive 8hrs a day I'll it be worth anything until they get 1200 plus miles per charge and then only if it can be completely recharged in your break time
Ronan, your video just made me very scared Massachusetts where I live is putting an EV mandate in for 2025. Living in Massachusetts we do not have the infrastructure for EV trucks. Apparently Massachusetts follows all of California’s policies on EV vehicles and they are going to make it very hard to buy diesel trucks in Massachusetts as of January 2025. We have dealerships reaching out on Facebook, and the web that this is going to kill the trucking industry in Massachusetts because we don’t have the infrastructure for it and it doesn’t seem that the politicians give two craps about it. I currently am a company driver for a company that does primarily scrap metal and in this industry and electric truck will not work at all for us, they don’t have the range nor availability but yet we have this mandate going in in 2025 and you’re saying the Tesla trucks not gonna be available to anybody till at least 2026 how can states make mandates like this if we don’t have the infrastructure for it or the product for it?
I think electric trucks are many years away from being a viable option. The cars have been out a long time and they still aren't even close to where they need to be for most people to consider buying them. The electric semis are a pipe dream at this point like the self driving vehicles that still need people. You're gonna have to have diesel trucks at the ready to come and tow them off the side of the road when the battery dies 😂.
Don't forget a second think that electric grid charging is efficient or clean. I don't t ever want to drive any E vehicle except a navy forklift or a golf cart. Now send me out into the cold and I'll freeze to death while you sit at your desk figuring out that you got fleeced.
You have given them 58k for a truck you haven’t even sat in never mind had a test drive , they have ignored you for two years and you still have nothing to show for it. It doesn’t strike me as good business.
That's how investment works on a whole, to be fair. A lot of is blind, but it's about risk and reward. So, we've taken the risk, tune in to see our reward
Well Ronen, whilst I applaud your passion for the TESLA trucks your heart may of ruled before your brain. I have seen one of Frito Lays in California but it didn’t appeal or excite me like an Electric VOLVO FH Aero running at 40,000 kgs on 5 axles or 44,000 kgs on 6 axles running down the road. There are many VOLVOS already in service throughout Europe with dealership and factory back up. TESLA has none of these or experience in road transport at all. It’s a huge risk, and looking back would you have put your money upfront on a promise? As far as I am concerned you do not know how good a truck is for 3 to 5 years of service. I would not want to be the first to own one and be disappointed and even worse loose revenue with downtime and teething issues. As a day cab goes a VNR would of been your safest bet and you will need to double shift them to cover the purchase or operating lease/ full service lease costs as VOLVO are proposing in North America. Don’t forget the installation and running costs of those charging units. And last but not least what is the cost of your electricity / charge or / km. You don’t know yet and can your current rates cover the whole cost of running these TESLAS ? It’s a huge gamble, and personally I would have liked that money spent on a deposit, earning me money, not Mr Musk. I am a huge fan of Elon, I believe he is an engineering genius but am concerned he may of bitten off more than he can chew with the TESLA SEMI 😢 I’m not sure why VOLVO NA are not pushing their electric offering, it’s not as if they are building a complete new truck. Is it problems with infrastructure and development of their dealerships? Perhaps they need to wholly own and operate their electric truck facilities, program and offering 100%. There is a long road ahead 😅 👍🇺🇸

I think when Tesla gives you a some what of a delivery date they should stick to that and at the moment which I know will get pushed out again there should be some compensation for that and as it stands right now, two years away is the next said delivery date. So they took your money and in two years sent you nothing. I’d be sitting in Elon Musks office wanting to know why have they not sent me any update . But then Ronan your company is big and profitable and probably not to worried about the money it spent and eventually the truck will show up but the money you would have saved is now so far away and as of 2024 when you were supposed to have the trucks in your hand, you have only spent money, so far nothing in return and all savings are now non existent. Elon scammed everyone. Didn’t put his money up, why, cause he took yours, and you let him.

I haven’t used one myself but from what I do know is they are able to cover a 11 hour shift on one charge and it’s groupage work, same as LTL over there. I’ll try and find out more for you.
Sounds promising!
Just because the manufacturers say something doesn't actually mean it to be true...but good luck in this endeavor that it actually doe
S what it says
Hello my friend and how much you gonna pay on an electric bill?
Cascadia won't need to replace fuel tanks but TESLA most likely will need battery replacement.
Good stuff!
Checkout Edison motors, Chase Barber is developing hybrid electric trucks right here in BC
Has anyone looked at costs to replace battery?
Interesting topic!
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News Yes, because Fuel tanks will be there for 20+ Years, Batteries at most about 7-8 years
TESLA: That Electric Sh!t Leave Alone!
That's the future though. All electric!
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News Don't count on that Ronen - I think that Hybrid technology is going to be the next thing.
Exactly, most homes in future should have one electric and one gas each, in the name of efficiency/cost reductions! @@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News I sure hope not
@@kentr2424Hybrids already here mate. Electric is the NEXT thing. People I know have been driving hybrids for 6+ years now
I don't understand how Tesla starts taking reservations for any new vehicle years ahead of it being ready. How is a commercial operator supposed to plan their fleet based on moving targets. Same situation is happening in aviation when airlines order new aircraft.
--- Over all Your right --
Elon appreciates the interest free loan.
Loan that is repaid with a Tesla truck? Albeit delayed but he’s still getting a product
@@basimnadeem1596 It is an interest free loan because he is not getting any interest on it. And getting a truck might be wishful thinking as Elon continues his downward spiral...
You throw PepsiCo out there as they are happy with the trucks, don’t know where you got that from? The electric trucks are not pulling soda for Pepsi as its range was cut by 1/4. The trucks have all been moved to Lays due to the loads only being 2,000 lbs.
Funny cause i’ve seen quite a few of them in California. I believe they were Pepsi! Guess your money is not enough for Tesla
You share a lot of knowledge. Appreciate 👍 First, I thought you own a fleet of 1000 trucks, at least. Wish luck with ev trucks. I believe there is a place for them in the future.
WHY RONEN???? WHY????? Where you gonna charge it at? I haven't seen a charging station at any truck stop???
His yard. I guess you missed the local part
@@lloydkuepfer1599 Your right! I did!
I like to do the review on that truck see if change my mind ... I like old kind the trucks but now I do have the 2024 kw t680 and pet 579 paccar engine due to fuel economy.. ... but I belive that tesla is very good for city work . For sure
Maybe stuck with Freightliner since the eCascadia is already out
The real money maker in the trucking industry is the tires spinning.
Congratulations u did it u pay attention to what I told u 2ry ago
Always pay cash I'm very happy for u so I guess I be seeing u in Canada this year in the freezing snow u bring ur electric truck up
I bring my new diesel freightliner
Let see see which truck and trailer
Dose better in the freezing temperature
See u again there amgo I meet up with at that old coffee shop In Ontario in Canada 🇨🇦
You didn’t calculate the cost of electricity
500 miles what people only drive 8hrs a day I'll it be worth anything until they get 1200 plus miles per charge and then only if it can be completely recharged in your break time
I left when you used a calculator to multiply 7000 x 100
Sometimes you gotta make sure you know? You never know if the world received a new patch update without your knowledge
My dream was to drive electric truck with diesel tanker. But I am not allowed get hazmat endorsement.
I wanna drive one
There's that inquisitive spirit! We also want to test them out!
You making alot on your Canadian owner operators.
I have your tesla
It’s in Brockton Massachusetts
We're coming to grab it soon alright
U should get electric truck from Canadian company. I
Better off seeing about doing business with Edison Motors out of B.C.
I mean you have a big enough fleet to try the technology so why not
Bummer, looking forward to less exhaust noise and smell in cities and roadways.
and no more breathing in the exhaust, yes drivers, we are breathing in the exhaust fumes, the air filters can only do so much
You loaned tesla 58k for 4years intrest free
Does anyone believe ANYTHING "tesla" says?!
Get nikola instead from chase made in bc
Don't forget a second think that electric grid charging is efficient or clean. I don't t ever want to drive any E vehicle except a navy forklift or a golf cart. Now send me out into the cold and I'll freeze to death while you sit at your desk figuring out that you got fleeced.
The winter road test is a lie was it carrying 80lb😂
It’ll benefit your pocket more than the environment but…
I plan to make a TON of money off of you and other fleet owners who adopt this technology.
Charging is free
Scam... 😂 That truck ain't coming. Elon thanks you for the interest-free loan.
There’s one born every minute😂
Hm?
I don't know where you get the news but you need the carbon for this planet to be alive. So where you get that shit about carbon footprint I would assume MSM.
You need it yes, but too much of anything becomes a bad thing. Our carbon emissions are way too high, hence why global warming is a thing. Surely, you've noticed that temperatures are rising each year
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News hahaha are efn kidding global warming is big scam what rise in temperature that's cyclical throughout thousands of years. And biggest producers of carbon is oceans about 4% out of that humans are I think 1% or was 4% I forgot but anyway I suggest you to throw away tv and don't watch MSM it will damage you big time
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News and if you concerned about carbon you shouldn't be buying electric trucks because you know how much carbon footprint is to make one haha . I understand you are concerned about your bottom line but it feels nice sort of to help planet. Take care 13 years of FB experience here do you hire and how much $$$ hahaha o/o
Good startups - bad setup 😂.
Unpopular opinion but the Tesla semi was just a paper launch, it is not a real product that you're supposed to buy...
I don't think Tesla is in a position to pull that off. With the number of investors, they may just HAVE to make it even if they intended not to
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News If we're looking at their history, for example solar city, FSD and even the cybertruck I don't expect them to deliver or either the quality will be poor or the price will increase. As for electric trucks, I'm operating in Europe and here we have Scania, MAN, Mercedes and Volvo who offer really good range for EV semis.
As far as Pepsi reports on the matter... I'm sorry but I can't trust them or Tesla at the moment. Hopefully they deliver or at least you can recover your investment
E M also knows a sucker is born everyday
Is he the only guy in the world that calls a "semi" truck a "semeee"? Whats up with a semeeeeeee?
Different people pronounce things differently... why do you think the French hate hearing Americans pronounce croissant?
For the love of god it’s not pronounced semes it’s semi. You sure you’ve been in a truck??
You’re smarter than that
Sucks to suck 🤣

Thanks for watching!
I don’t think u should get any semis until u learn how to say semi bruh

I wouldn’t drive one. I think they’re ugly looking even if it runs on electricity, which by the way is not free either.. oh, and by the way, better hope it doesn’t catch fire for some reason
All this time testing and watch them still fall apart, teslas ideas are cool but this isn’t elons forte… he should stick to rockets
Give him a chance
@@NorthAmerican-Trucking-News i like Elon so i hope they’re good trucks, but they don’t have the best quality for cars but their software is great that’s for sure
I'll agree on the quality for their newest line of the Cybertrucks. However, the Tesla cars have been outperforming a lot of other cars in the market lately. That's even including racing. It's pretty interesting actually!
